Well I obviously forgot to order the book, so I sat in the class hoping that Malvika forgets that we have a novel to read. Unfortunately, she remembered but fortunately we didn’t need it.
We started the lecture just the way we started with Metamorphosis, by researching and learning more about the writer, Italo Calvino.
We were divided into groups and told to research and find information about Italo Calvino. We were then told to create a mind map about the information we collected.
Our group was given to research about his early life and personal life, where he comes from, education and his parent’s background.
Here is all my group’s research:
- Italo Calvino was born on 15 October, 1923 near a small town in Havana, Cuba.
- After his birth, the family moved to their native place, Italy.
- He was brought up in his parent’s lush green farms of San Remo.
- Both his parents, were traveling botanists, working as agronomists in Cuba.
- He attended the University of Turin’s School of Agriculture in Italy, where his father was a professor.
- He left his studies midway because of the second world war
- He received induction orders for the army.
- Instead of reporting, Calvino took to the hills, joining the Garibaldi Brigade resistance fighters operating in the Maritime Alps.
- He fought against both Germans and Italian fascists.
- His parents were taken into custody by the Nazis.
- After the war ended Calvino returned to college.
- This time he studied literature under the faculty of Letters.
- After the war, he started writing journals. journals about his experiences of the war.
