In the last class we were asked to draw 5 different cities – as we imagined them – iterated in the book by Italo Calvino, ‘Invisible Cities‘. We had to draw 3 sketches each from different 5 cities from any 5 different chapters of the book. During the class Kanika ma’am was reviewing everyone’s illustrations individually.
I illustrated Diomira (Cities and memories-1), Isidora (Cities and memories-2), Valdrada (Cities & Eyes-1), Octavia (Chapter 5, Thin Cities 5), Thekla (Chapter 8, Cities & The Sky) [Respectively, as shown in the pictures]. This exercise was very challenging and required a lot of critical thinking along with imagination. The concept that I used while depicted Calvino’s words is to give an overview of the entire place pertaining to how I visualised it while reading then give the main small details about the place.
